Android 16 live updates are coming to Samsung, OnePlus, and more

Android 16 Live Updates are no longer just a Pixel exclusive. Google confirmed at I/O that this new real-time notification feature, similar to Apple’s Live Activity, will roll out to Samsung, OnePlus, vivo, and Xiaomi smartphones before the end of the year. Android 16 Live Updates let you keep tabs on food deliveries, rideshares, or navigation apps—all without unlocking your phone.
This is one of those Android changes you’ll actually notice. Instead of bouncing between apps, Android 16 Live Updates show your delivery status, Uber ETA, or trip progress right on your lock or home screen. You don’t have to wonder if your pizza’s getting cold or if your ride is circling the block—everything’s right there.
But Android 16 isn’t just copying Apple. Google goes further: not only do you get those live progress bars and notifications like Apple’s Live Activity, but you can also take direct actions. Call your driver, send a message, or tip—all straight from the notification, without ever opening the app.
For Samsung, Live Updates will appear in the Now Bar as part of the One UI 8 update. Google has already shown official demos, and leaked builds give us a peek at how it’ll look on Galaxy phones. OnePlus users will see Live Alerts in OxygenOS 15, which works a lot like Apple’s Dynamic Island, but for Android. vivo and Xiaomi are also integrating Live Updates into their own Android skins. So, this is a real ecosystem play—not just another Pixel-only trick.
Right now, the feature is focused on delivery, ridesharing, and navigation. But Google says more apps could be supported later. If that happens, Android 16 Live Updates might keep you posted on everything. From sports scores to package deliveries, all without digging through notifications.
