The Apple foldable iPhone might finally be happening. After years of rumors and delays, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims production will begin as early as Q3 2025 — or Q4 at the latest. That puts Apple on track for a possible launch in late 2026, likely as part of the iPhone 18 lineup.

Apple has always moved at its own pace when entering new categories. Foldables are no different. While Samsung, Oppo, and Huawei have spent years iterating, Apple has been quietly working behind the scenes. Now, those efforts are finally starting to materialize.

Kuo says Samsung Display has been tapped to produce between 7 to 8 million foldable panels for the device, with Apple targeting up to 20 million total units. That’s a strong indicator of how seriously Apple is taking this launch.

However, not all the pieces are finalized. According to the report, several key specs — including the hinge design — are still being decided. Early leaks suggest a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer one, but those numbers could still shift.

Starting production doesn’t mean we’ll see the phone soon. Apple is reportedly eyeing a fall 2026 release for its foldable iPhone. But this production timeline confirms what many suspected: the foldable iPhone is no longer just a concept.

Pricing will be critical. Apple can afford to be late, but it can’t afford another Vision Pro situation. The foldable iPhone will need to stick the landing — on design, durability, and especially price — if it hopes to succeed in a market that’s already matured without it.
