Chrome finally lets Android users move the address bar to the bottom

Chrome bottom address bar is finally a thing on Android. After more than a year of waiting, Google is now rolling out the option to move Chrome’s address bar to the bottom of the screen. It’s a small change that makes a big difference, especially for one-handed use. Apple made a similar move with Safari a few years ago. While it was controversial at first, many users came around once they realized it was just more ergonomic.

Smartphones aren’t getting any smaller. Trying to tap the top of the screen while holding a large phone with one hand is a stretch. Literally. Moving the Chrome address bar to the bottom puts it within easy reach of your thumb. It’s one of those changes that feels obvious once you try it.

If you’re on Android, the rollout has already begun. Some users are seeing the feature show up automatically, but it might take a few more days for everyone to get it. Once it lands on your device, you can activate it by long-pressing the address bar and choosing “Move address bar to bottom.” In some cases, you’ll also find the option in Chrome’s Settings under a new “Address Bar” menu.

The best part? It’s optional. If you prefer keeping the bar up top, you don’t have to switch. But if you want a browsing experience that’s easier on your thumbs, this is a welcome update.
