The Galaxy S25 was expected to be the first phone to use the Exynos 2500, Samsung's first 3nm smartphone processor. However, the company exclusively went with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the entire Galaxy S25 lineup. Since then, there have been contradicting rumors about the launch of the chip.
We can now clear the air and confirm that the Exynos 2500 will debut this year.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 uses the 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset
We can confirm through our own sources that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 uses the Exynos 2500 processor in most countries, including India and South Korea. This is the first time an Exynos chip will be used in a Galaxy Z series phone. It has model number S5E9955 and succeeds last year's Exynos 2400 (S5E9945) processor that was used in the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ in most countries globally.
The Exynos 2500 is a 3nm chip designed by Samsung's in-house chip division, System LSI, and fabricated on Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm process node. A previous report claimed that it features a 10-core CPU, the Xclipse 950 GPU (based on AMD RDNA 3.5 architecture), and 16MB of L3 cache. The detailed CPU core configuration, according to previous rumors, is listed below.
- 1x Cortex-X925 CPU (3.3GHz)
- 2x Cortex-A725 CPU (2.75GHz)
- 5x Cortex-A725 CPU (2.36GHz)
- 2x Cortex-A520 CPU (1.8GHz)
Usually, Samsung uses Exynos chips in its high-end phones in most countries except for Canada, China, and the USA. And it will likely be the same for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung could stick to the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Chinese and North American markets.
Grab Galaxy S25 Edge
The Exynos 2500 might be a better choice for thin phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 7, as the Snapdragon 8 Elite runs a bit hot in ultra-thin phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge. However, things will only get clear once we review the phone in the coming months.
