Fairphone 4 will skip Android 14 update to focus on Android 15

Fairphone has announced that it will skip the Android 14 update for the Fairphone 4. Instead, the device will be upgraded to Android 15 directly.

The Fairphone 4 was launched in 2021, and ran Android 11 out of the box. It was updated to Android 12 in February 2023, and received the Android 13 upgrade a few months later. However, the Dutch company has not provided further OS upgrades for the device, despite promising to offer software support until at least 2026, with potential plans to extend that to 2028. The company's announcement to cancel the update in favor of Android 15 has not gone down well among the Fairphone community. Quite a few users have voiced their concerns against the decision, with some questioning the very future of Fairphone, and its commitment to support its devices. They pointed out that many old bugs remain unfixed in the now outdated version of the operating system.
