Galaxy A36 is official with better selfie camera, faster charging, 6 OS updates

Today, Samsung announced the Galaxy A36, one of its newest mid-range phones. It went official alongside the Galaxy A26 and the Galaxy A56.

It brings a slimmer design, a brighter screen, a newer processor, a better selfie camera, six major Android OS updates, and faster charging.

Galaxy A36 features and specifications

The Galaxy A36 is a well-rounded mid-range phone. It has almost all the features one would want from a phone in its price segment.

Display

It sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,200 nits peak brightness. The phone has an in-display optical fingerprint reader and stereo speakers.

Design

Despite having a slightly bigger screen than the Galaxy A35, the Galaxy A36 is lighter, weighing 195g. It is also slimmer, at 7.4mm. Its screen is covered using Gorilla Glass Victus+ to protect against scratches and scuffs. The phone has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Performance

Samsung has equipped its new phone with a newer, more power-efficient processor, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. It is fabricated on Samsung Foundry's 4nm process node (4LPX).

The chip has four Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 CPU cores running at 1.8GHz. Samsung says it offers 8% faster CPU performance than the Exynos 1380 chip used in the Galaxy A35 last year.

The Galaxy A36 comes in two memory configurations: 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. Unfortunately, the phone lacks a microSD card slot, so you can't expand its storage capacity at a later stage.

Software & updates

The phone runs Android 15 and One UI 7.0. Samsung has promised to provide six major Android OS updates and security updates for up to six years. That means the phone will receive Android 21 as its last major software update.

Cameras

The Galaxy A36 has a triple camera setup on the rear featuring a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. On the front, it has a brand-new 12MP selfie camera. This is the same selfie camera used in the Galaxy S24 series.

Using the phone's front and primary rear cameras, you can record 4K 30fps videos in 10-bit Super HDR.

Connectivity, battery, and charging

Its connectivity features include GPS, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It has a dual-SIM card slot and an e-SIM.

The Galaxy A36 is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 45W fast charging. The battery can be charged from 0% to 66% in 30 minutes, while a full charge (0-100%) takes around 68 minutes.
