Galaxy Watch 8 won’t get a performance upgrade

The Galaxy Watch Ultra was a massive change compared to previous Galaxy Watches. It was recently revealed that Samsung is planning to bring a Galaxy Watch Ultra-like design to all its future smartwatches. Now, the processor that will be used in the Galaxy Watch 8 series has been revealed.

They won't feature a brand-new chip.

Digging through the One UI 8 Watch firmware files, Android Authority discovered three codenames: Fresh 8, Fresh 8 Small, and Wise 8. Previous reports already revealed that these codenames refer to the Galaxy Watch 8 (comes in two sizes) and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. And these codenames were found associated with the processor whose model number is S5E5535 (part number SC55535AHA), which refers to the Exynos W1000 chip.

The Exynos W1000 processor debuted with the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra last year. It is fabricated on Samsung Foundry's 3nm process and features a five-core CPU, the ARM Mali-G68 MP2 GPU, and built-in 32GB storage for faster performance.

This Samsung-designed chip has one high-performance Cortex-A78 CPU core and four Cortex-A55 CPU cores. It is 3.4x faster than the previous-generation wearable Exynos chip in single-core CPU performance and 3.7x faster in multi-core CPU performance.

Samsung usually uses the same Exynos smartwatch chip for 2-3 years, it was expected that the Galaxy Watch 8 series might not get a new processor. However, it is now confirmed that it will be the case.
