Galaxy Z Flip 7 performance: Exynos 2500 lags behind rivals

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 performance has finally been revealed, and—well, it’s not looking great for Samsung’s foldable. After months of rumors, we now know the phone is running Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chip. If you were hoping for a powerhouse, you’ll want to temper your expectations.

The Z Flip 7 showed up on Geekbench as the SM-F766U (the US carrier-locked version), packing the Exynos 2500 and 12GB RAM, running Android 16 with One UI 8.0. The chip managed a single-core score of 2,012 and a multi-core of 7,563. That’s… fine, but not great. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, MediaTek Dimensity 9400, and Apple’s A18 Pro, the Exynos 2500 is simply outclassed. Even the Xiaomi Xring O1 pulled ahead.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s performance is only a hair above last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That means Samsung is basically shipping a flagship foldable that’s already behind the current pack.

The Exynos 2500 is a 3nm chip with a 10-core setup: one Cortex-X925 at 3.3GHz, two Cortex-A725 at 2.75GHz, five Cortex-A725 at 2.36GHz, and two Cortex-A520 at 1.8GHz. It uses Samsung’s Xclipse 950 GPU. That prime X925 core is clocked lower than most of the competition. Maybe Samsung’s trying to keep heat down or extend battery life, but it comes at a cost.

What’s more, this US variant might actually go global. So, unless Samsung pulls a last-minute switch, most users will end up with the Exynos 2500, not Qualcomm.

Samsung plans to unveil the Z Flip 7 (and the Z Fold 7) in early July in New York. But after seeing these benchmarks, it feels like the Z Flip 7’s performance is a step back, not forward.
