Google will no longer offer security updates for devices running Android 12

Every month, Google releases a security patch for Android, which contains fixes for many security issues. Until the March 2025 security patch, the brand offered these updates to Android 12 and newer versions of the OS. However, with the April 2025 security patch, the company is dropping support for Android 12 and Android 12L, and offering these crucial updates to only Android 13 and newer version of the OS.

Samsung takes Google’s security patches, adds fixes for more security issues to them, and offers those to Galaxy phones and tablets. it stopped offering these updates to devices running Android 12 (One UI 4) and older versions of the OS a while ago. Currently, it is offering these updates to devices running Android 13 (One UI 5) and later. So, Google’s latest change to security patches doesn’t effect Samsung devices.

Speaking on Samsung’s security patches, the tech giant started rolling out the April 2025 security patch to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets last month. It fixes 56 security issues, which you can check out here.

Samsung has been under fire lately for delaying the rollout of Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update. While the brand is yet to roll it out to all the eligible devices, its Android 16-based One UI 8.0 has leaked. You can check it out what it offers here.
