Instagram battery drain on Android finally fixed with latest update

Are you noticing particularly fast battery drain on your Android phone? Turns out, Instagram is to blame. Over the past week, users across Reddit and social media have reported the Instagram app burning through battery much faster than normal—sometimes using up 12% in under an hour, while apps like WhatsApp barely made a dent.

According to Redditor Salltee, “Look at the on screen time for WhatsApp and its usage compared to Instagram. If I go on a charge without using Instagram, I can easily squeeze out 6 hours in 60%. No clue what’s going on with the app, but it clearly needs some optimization in place.”

Some tried installing older Instagram versions to fix it, only to end up with overheating phones. Others switched to Instagram Lite and saw much better battery life, pointing to the main app as the culprit.

Now, Google has officially confirmed the Instagram battery drain on Android and says a fix is here. In an advisory, Google said: “Starting today, Instagram is rolling out an updated app that should fix a battery drain issue on Android devices. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app (build 382.0.0.49.84) to resolve this issue.”

Early reports say the update actually works. Users who installed the latest Instagram version are finally seeing normal battery life again. So, if your phone’s battery has been tanking lately, just hit the Play Store, update Instagram, and you should be good to go.
