Samsung reused the folder-shaped Galaxy Z Flip cover screen design for two consecutive years. Now, Samsung is preparing to flip the script and introduce a bold new cover screen design with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7. It looks oddly familiar and directly inspired by Motorola.
The leaked Galaxy Z Flip 7 renders below, sourced by Android Headlines, confirm that Samsung's upcoming foldable Flip phone has a full cover screen that extends toward all four edges of the front panel. The cover screen stretches beyond and under the two front-facing cameras and the LED flash cutout. This design cue is very similar to the Motorola Razr Ultra cover screen, for better or worse.
Gone is the unique folder-shaped cover screen, and in its place, we get two large camera cutouts that might get in the way of the on-screen content.
Samsung uses Infinity-O cutouts for selfie cameras extensively on other phone models, but they're nothing like these oversized dual cutouts on the Galaxy Z Flip 7's cover screen.
A bold move from Samsung copying Motorola
These leaked renders show the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in two color options, called Blue Shadow and Jet Black. The renders also confirm a flat frame, a slimmer profile, and thin bezels for the cover screen.

As for those two prominent cover screen cameras, they are said to have 50MP (wide) and 12MP (ultrawide) resolutions.
One of the issues Motorola's Razr Ultra had with this bold design was that the big camera cutouts could hide on-screen tabs and buttons in some apps, rendering them unusable. Needless to say, we are eager to see how Samsung may have tackled this issue and whether the software will account for the cutouts.
We hope Samsung won't repeat Motorola's mistakes, even if it looks like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is already halfway there by taking much inspiration from the Razr Ultra series.
Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Flip 7, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and likely the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, at this summer's Unpacked. The event is expected to be hosted in New York City on July 9.
