Samsung was the first smartphone maker to introduce the Multi Window split screen feature in 2012 with the launch of the Galaxy Note 2. Since then, Multi Window has received many updates, and now, it's getting another.
With the launch of the One UI 8 beta firmware today, Samsung improved Multi Window by making it more flexible and easier to use. In One UI 8, Multi Window gets two new features inspired by Android 16.
The first Multi Window upgrade in One UI 8 consists of a new window configuration. Users can now drag the window border and make one app occupy a larger portion of the screen.
Why would anyone want this feature, given that the smaller window is almost unusable? It goes hand in hand with another great addition to Multi Window.
Namely, in One UI 8, you can switch between which app takes the larger screen area by simply tapping it. Check out our short demo video below.
It's worth noting that switching between windows by tapping only works when one app window is stretched to the maximum, i.e., to about 90% of the screen. It doesn't work when the screen is split at different ratios.
Either way, these two new Multi Window features in One UI 8 will let you use an app almost like you would in full-screen mode but without exiting Multi Window. They are simple but very effective features that make Multi Window better and easier to use.
One UI 8 didn't have much to show us in leaked builds, but these Multi Window features included in the first official beta build were a pleasant surprise.
If you want to try One UI 8 beta, the program is now open in Korea for the Galaxy S25 series and should soon launch in Germany, the UK, and the USA. Stay tuned as we explore more One UI 8 features throughout the beta period.
