One UI 8 will raise the Samsung RAM Plus limit above 8GB

Samsung released RAM Plus in 2021 as a solution to allowing more apps to stay active in the background and virtually increase the RAM on Galaxy phones and tablets that need it. It's never allowed users to assign more than 8GB of virtual memory, but Samsung's upcoming One UI 8 update will change that.

At a glance, the early One UI 8 firmware we recently got our hands on doesn't have much to offer compared to One UI 7. However, one not-so-obvious change lies in how RAM Plus works. One UI 8 allows users to assign more than 8GB of virtual memory through RAM Plus.

When we checked the Samsung RAM Plus settings in the early version of One UI 8 running on our Galaxy Z Flip 6, we were greeted with an extra option aside from 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB. To our surprise, One UI 8 offers a 12GB setting. This happens to be the amount of physical RAM the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has.

samsung ram plus – 12gb

At the moment, we can't confirm if 12GB will be the new upper limit for Samsung RAM Plus in One UI 8 or if Galaxy devices with 16GB of RAM will have a 16GB RAM Plus option in addition to the others.

Either way, judging by how RAM Plus appears to be working under the hood, it's unlikely that we will ever be able to assign RAM Plus virtual memory in quantities that exceed the limit of the device's physical RAM.

In other words, we have confirmed that there is a new 12GB option for RAM Plus on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 running the early version of One UI 8. However, that 12GB option probably won't be available for Galaxy devices that have 8GB or less physical RAM.

One UI 8 is expected to debut with Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 foldable phones this summer.
