Samsung recently announced that its own Wallet app will feature support for digital keys with select Mercedes-Benz cars. Scheduled to roll out in July 2025, the feature will allow Mercedes-Benz owners to use their Samsung phones as electronic keys. Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung states:
We’re excited to bring Mercedes-Benz drivers the incredible convenience that comes with Samsung Digital Key access… Our collaboration with Mercedes-Benz advances our vision of providing effortless access to tech-enabled experiences across the Galaxy ecosystem.
When a user is inside their vehicle, the Digital Key feature also doubles as an ignition switch, allowing users to start their car without the need for a physical key. Users can also share the digital key with trusted contacts along with the option to give (or restrict) access as needed. Users will be able to register their Digital Key via the Mercedes me smartphone app.
Samsung adds that the digital keys are securely embedded within the device with EAL6+4 security standards for protection against unwanted access. The feature also uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) in order to reduce the risk of unwanted access to a user’s car. In case you lose your device (or if it’s stolen), you’ll be able to remotely lock or delete their digital keys using Samsung’s Find service.
