Rumors had suggested that Qualcomm might unveil its flagship Snapdragon chip a bit earlier this year. The company typically holds the Snapdragon Summit in the month of October but late September had recently been floated as the potential launch window for this year.
That has turned out to be true. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed during the Computex 2025 keynote that the Snapdragon Summit 2025 will take place September 23 – 25 in Maui, Hawaii.
Next flagship Qualcomm chip to be unveiled on September 23
The 2025 flagship chip will be the successor the Snapdragon 8 Elite, that's used in many leading Android smartphones, including the Galaxy S25 series and the newly launched Galaxy S25 Edge. TM Roh, the head of Samsung's mobile division, made an appearance on stage during last year's Snapdragon Summit.
The new chip may be called Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or Elite Gen 2. It's expected to be built on TSMC's 3nm N3P process with Qualcomm's second-generation custom Oryon cores in a 2+6 core layout. The chipset is also expected to feature the Adreno 840 GPU.
It's unclear if the Galaxy S26 will use the new Snapdragon chip, it was initially rumored to go Snapdragon-only, but recent reports suggest that Samsung is close to getting the Exynos 2600 in there.
Some rumors have claimed that there will be an Eyxnos/Snapdragon split for the Galaxy S26 series, with European variants featuring the Exynos 2600 and all rest being powered by the latest Snapdragon chipset.
Recent reports have also suggested that Qualcomm will get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 for Galaxy variant built on Samsung's 2nm process, so it's likely that the chip may not be ready in time for next year's Galaxy S lineup.
