The arrival of artificial intelligence is revolutionising the world drastically as it can help people in many ways. Smartphones being arguably the most crucial gadgets in people’s lives, this is where we are seeing one of the highest applications and usages of AI.
In the Android market, almost every device nowadays offers AI features through Google’s apps infused with Gemini. Samsung’s phones, in addition to Gemini’s features, come with Galaxy AI, which provides even more AI-powered tools, making them the best in the segment in terms of AI. Samsung introduced it with the Galaxy S24 and upgraded it with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, then with the Galaxy S25 and One UI 7.0 (Android 15).
The South Korean tech giant’s main rival in the smartphone market, Apple, also offers AI features with iPhones. The brand calls its suite of AI features Apple Intelligence, and it provides tools similar to the ones that Galaxy AI does. However, the American tech giant was late to the party.
Apple introduced AI with the iPhone 16 series. While it arrived late to the party, the question now is: which one is better? Galaxy AI or Apple Intelligence? Well, to answer that question, we are going to pit the two against each other and see which one turns out to be the most helpful in day-to-day life. Since they offer a lot of features, we are going to compare each of their similar features in a separate article.
We will start the series by comparing the most useful features and work our way towards the less popular ones. Among the features they offer, we think Galaxy AI’s Writing Assist and Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools are the most useful. They can summarize content, proofread, help you with writing, and generate content.
With that in mind, in this article, we will compare Samsung Galaxy AI Writing Assist with Apple Intelligence Writing Tools.
Note: For our Samsung Galaxy AI vs. Apple Intelligence series, we are using Samsung’s Galaxy S23 with One UI 7.0 and Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 18.4.1. With Apple’s device being two years newer, it has an advantage (but you will be surprised to know the results).
Samsung Galaxy AI Writing Assist vs. Apple Intelligence Writing Tools
You can access Samsung Galaxy AI Writing Assist in a few ways. One of the simplest ways is to select a piece of text. When you do that, the phone will show you a pop-up with a bunch of options, and the Galaxy AI icon will be one of them. Once you tap on it, you will see tools for content summarization, proofreading, writing assistance, and content generation.

Similarly, you can access Apple Intelligence Writing Tools in a few ways. One of the simplest ways is to select a piece of text. When you do that, you will see a pop-up with many options, and Writing Tools will be one of them. Once you tap it, you will see options for tools similar to those offered by Galaxy AI.

Content summarization
Galaxy AI provides three options for summarizing a piece of text: Summarize, Bullet Point, and Table.
The first option offers the summary in a bullet point format. It also gives two summary styles: Standard and Detailed. The Standard style offers a short summary, and the Detailed style provides a longer and more detailed summary. The second option, as the name suggests, also provides the summary in the bullet point format. However, it provides a more detailed summary than the Detailed style does in the Summarize option. The third option serves the summary in a tabular format.
Galaxy AI also gives you options to copy that summary to the clipboard or replace the selected content with the summary that it has generated. You can check it out in the image below.

Apple Intelligence, on the other hand, gives you four options to summarize a selected piece of text: Summary, Key Points, List, and Table.
The first option provides the summary in a paragraph format, which is something that Galaxy AI misses out on. The second one arranges them in bullet points (but it doesn't offer you summary styles like Galaxy AI does). The third option also serves the summary in bullet points, but with fewer words to make it look like a list. The fourth option summarises the content in a tabular format.
Apple Intelligence gives you options to copy the summary and replace the selected content with the summary, as well as share it with someone, which Galaxy AI misses out on.

Apart from summarizing a selected piece of content, Galaxy AI and Apple Intelligence can also summarize a webpage, but the feature is limited to the brands’ own web browsers, which are Samsung Internet and Safari, respectively.
Let’s start with Samsung. When you open Samsung Internet and go to a webpage, to summarize it, you have to tap the Galaxy AI icon in the bottom toolbar and select Summarize. When you do that, Galaxy AI will bring up the summary of the webpage as well as provide you with options to copy it and translate it into another language.

As for Apple, when you open Safari and go to a webpage, to summarize it, you just have to tap the Apple Intelligence button in the address bar. That means accessing this feature requires two fewer steps than that offered by Galaxy AI. However, Apple Intelligence neither gives you the option to copy nor to translate the summary.

As for the summary quality, Galaxy AI usually provides a longer but more detailed summary in all formats and styles compared to their equivalent options in Apple Intelligence in the scenarios we tested. It is possible that in other cases, it could be the other way around. That being said, there shouldn't be a lot of difference in other scenarios. With that in mind, we think that people who prefer more detailed summaries may like Galaxy AI, and others may find Apple Intelligence better.
As you can see, when it comes to summarizing a selected piece of text, Apple Intelligence can summarize the content in one more format than Galaxy AI, and it also provides an option to share it, which the latter doesn’t, making it marginally better. However, when it comes to summarizing a webpage, Galaxy AI provides you with options to copy the summary and translate it, which Apple Intelligence doesn’t, giving it an upper hand. So, we think it is safe to call this a tie.
Spelling and grammar error correction
Samsung calls Galaxy AI’s tool for checking errors in a piece of text ‘Spelling and grammar,' while Apple calls it ‘Proofread.’ While most people may think that both perform similarly, that's not the case.
On the Galaxy S23 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, when we selected a piece of text that had spelling and grammatical mistakes, both devices pointed out the errors and offered an option to automatically correct them.

However, when we selected a piece of text that had no spelling or grammatical mistakes, Galaxy AI pointed out letter case and stylizing errors, whereas Apple Intelligence didn’t. For example, Galaxy AI pointed out that in the text we selected, which contained the term ‘Apple Mac Mini’, the letter M in ‘Mini' should be in the lower case as Apple stylizes it.

So, the AI suite from Samsung goes a step further than just checking for spelling and grammar and makes sure that the letter casing and styling are also correct. With that, Galaxy AI wins this race hands down.
Writing assistance
When it comes to writing assistance, Galaxy AI and Apple Intelligence are quite different.
Let’s start with Galaxy AI. To access writing assistance in it, select a piece of text, and from the pop-up that appears above it, select the Galaxy AI icon, and then tap on ‘Writing style.’
When you do that, Galaxy AI will analyze the text and then rewrite it in five different styles: Professional, Casual, #Social, Polite, and Emojify. The first style is great for making a piece of text suitable for academic or office use. The second option gives content an informal style. The third makes it fit for social media by adding emojis and hashtags. The fourth option makes the content sound more polite. The fifth edits it by filling it with lots of emojis.

Coming to Apple Intelligence, when you select a piece of text and select Writing Tools from the pop-up that appears, you will see five options for writing assistance.
The first one lets you ‘Describe your change.’ For example, in this field, you can type “Change this paragraph to passive voice” or “add emojis to the content,” and it will do that for you. You can use it in a number of ways. This is a very useful feature, and unfortunately, Galaxy AI doesn’t offer it.

The second feature is equally useful. Apple calls it ‘Rewrite.’ This feature can edit the content automatically to make it read better. This is helpful when you want to make something you’ve written simply read better without giving it a certain style. Sadly, Galaxy AI misses out on this too.

The third, fourth, and fifth features are Friendly, Professional, and Concise. The first two features, similar to Galaxy AI, give a piece of text a certain style to make it fit for an occasion. Concise, on the other hand, makes the content shorter by removing unnecessary words.

Although Galaxy AI provides you with more writing styles, it is Apple Intelligence that comes out on top here by giving you an option to command it to change the content in any way you want or just simply rewrite it.
Content generation
Galaxy AI, as well as Apple Intelligence, can generate text for you. Samsung calls this feature ‘Composer’ and Apple calls it ‘Compose.’ While the South Korean tech giant uses its proprietary technology, the American tech giant relies on ChatGPT for this feature. On both platforms, you can describe what you want to write about, and they will generate the content for you.
Starting with Galaxy AI, while describing what you want it to write about, it gives you the option to choose where you want to share the content (Standard, Email, Social Media, and Comment) and in which tone you want the content to be so that it can generate a more appropriate response.
On the Galaxy S23, we asked Galaxy AI to write content for an invitation for a housewarming party (we selected Standard and Polite), and it generated a generalized, short, and precise piece of content that does the job.

As for Apple Intelligence, while describing what you want it to write about, it doesn’t let you choose where you want to share the content or give it a certain style. However, it is intelligent in another way.
On the iPhone 16 Pro Max, when we asked Apple Intelligence to write content for an invitation for a housewarming party, it asked us to provide the host name, party date and time, and party location to provide a piece of text that contains all the essential details, saving you from adding those manually, unlike Galaxy AI. It also gave us an option to skip entering those details and generate the content.

When we tapped on ‘Ignore,’ it generated content that was much more involving and read better than the piece of text provided by Galaxy AI. Plus, Apple Intelligence inserted placeholders for host name, party date and time, and party location.

We then tested the same command by providing the details it had asked for. In this case, it generated content similar to the one it did earlier and used the details we had provided and offered a more complete invitation. But that’s not all.

Apple Intelligence followed up by asking if we wanted to give it a certain tone or add more details. That means Apple Intelligence can do everything Galaxy AI can and more. With that, we think that when it comes to generating text, Apple Intelligence is better than Galaxy AI.
To sum it all up, Samsung Galaxy AI and Apple Intelligence are neck to neck in content summarisation. While the former takes the lead in fixing spelling and grammatical mistakes, the latter comes out on top in writing assistance and content generation. With that, we think people will find Apple Intelligence more useful in day-to-day life than Galaxy AI, partly thanks to its dependence on ChatGPT.
That being said, the difference isn't huge, and Galaxy AI does a fantastic job, too. We are also hopeful that Samsung will upgrade Galaxy AI with features that it misses out on compared to Apple Intelligence with a software update.
