Kia revealed the Concept EV2 electric car earlier this year, and the Korean car maker plans to bring the next-gen EV to the market in February 2026. Samsung will play a crucial role in making the car possible, and the SDI branch is now getting its battery factory in Hungary ready for the task.
Samsung SDI will supply Kia with prismatic batteries for the EV2 next-gen electric car. These batteries will be manufactured at Samsung's facilities in Göd, Hungary, where the company is now preparing to make factory line changes to meet the demand.
According to The Elec, Samsung will remove parts of Factory 1 to make room for new assembly line equipment. More specifically, production lines 1 and 3 in Factory 1 will undergo these modifications within the year.
Samsung will supply Kia's EVs for Europe for the next half a decade
Samsung's prismatic batteries destined for Kia's next-generation EV are made using stacking rathern than the winding technique. They have a high nickel content of more than 91%. The anode is silicon carbon nanocomposite and contains 10% silicon.
Under contract, Samsung is expected to supply batteries for EVs to Hyundai Motor Group, the Kia car brand owner, for electric vehicles launching in Europe between 2026 and 2032.
The Kia Concept EV2 showcased in February 2025 ahead of its expected February 2026 release is an SUV with a monolithic design and vertical daytime running lights, rear-hinged back doors, a large sunroof, and a minimalist but multi-configurable interior.
