Samsung Wallet ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ gets trial launch in the US

Samsung announced back in January this year that it would bring a new feature called Instant Payments to Samsung Wallet in the United States. This is essentially a “Buy Now, Pay Later” (BNPL) service that lets users split their transactions into several payments.

This feature has received a trial launch in the United States, with some users receiving emails inviting them to participate in the Early Access program. They are required to have an eligible credit card and be a resident of an eligible US state.

The Samsung Wallet BNPL early access period starts April 28

Samsung has teamed up with Splitit to launch the BNPL feature in Samsung Wallet for users in the US. The company says that this feature will be live in the “coming weeks.” It will let users split their transactions into several payments while using their current credit card. No credit checks are required to use this feature.

Users who sign up for the trial are required to have an eligible VISA or Mastercard credit card. Support may be expanded to other card issues like Discover or American Express once the trial ends. The early access is currently limited to residents of Maryland, Michigan, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Wyoming, and Utah. They'll find the early access participation option in the Wallet app.

The Samsung Wallet BNPL trial launch kicks off on April 28 and runs through to June 6, 2025. The company may opt for a wider launch thereafter. All Samsung Galaxy phones that can make NFC payments should be eligible for this feature in theory, but the company hasn't provided any precise compatibility details as yet.
