Samsung’s new mid-range Exynos chip for Galaxy A57 appears

It is customary for Samsung to launch a new Exynos chip each year for its Galaxy A5x series mid-range phones. Earlier this year, the company launched the Exynos 1580 for the Galaxy A56. And its successor, the Exynos 1680, has been spotted, likely for the Galaxy A57.

Our friends at GalaxyClub have discovered Samsung's next-generation mid-range processor that will likely be used in the Galaxy A57. It features model number S5E8865, and it succeeds this year's chip that carries model number S5E8855 (Exynos 1580). Looking at Samsung's track record, the upcoming chip will likely be named the Exynos 1680.

The report also claims that the upcoming Exynos chip will likely use Samsung's in-house Xclipse 550 GPU, which could be based on AMD's RDNA 3.5 architecture, which is the same as the architecture used in the South Korean firm's upcoming Exynos 2500 chip with the Xclipse 950 GPU. It isn't clear what performance improvements the chip will bring, and things will only get clearer sometime in late 2025 or early next year.

This is the first report that talks about the Galaxy A57. The Galaxy A56 brought a faster chip (Exynos 1580), an improved front-facing camera, 10-bit Super HDR image and video capture, a thinner and lighter body, and faster (45W) charging support. It is clear that the Galaxy A57 will bring performance improvements, but other changes haven't been revealed yet.

Samsung should ideally bring a telephoto camera to the Galaxy A57, as competing brands from China have started offering 2x or 3x optical zoom cameras in their higher mid-range phones. The Galaxy A57 should also bring a bigger (possibly 6,000mAh) battery and 4K 60fps video recording ability.
