Samsung’s tri-folding phone may disappoint in this one key area

It's no secret that Samsung has a tri-folding phone in the pipeline. The company confirmed as much when it put up a silhouette of such a device when mentioning its plans for the future during the Galaxy S25 launch event back in January this year.

Rumors and leaks about the device have since trickled in even though Samsung hasn't provided any official details yet. One such rumor points to the device's charging speed which will be disappointed for those who were wishing for a major improvement.

Charging speeds may not see a significant bump on this device

The latest from the echo chamber of leakers on X suggests that Samsung's tri-fold smartphone is being tested with a maximum charging speed of 23-24W, which would likely be marketed as 25W fast charging when the device is launched.

That would be disappointing as even Samsung's mid-range Galaxy A56 and A36 now support 45W fast charging. We must not forget Samsung's history of playing it safe with charging speeds on foldable devices.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 also supports 25W charging only. Recent leaks have also suggested that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 may also hit this charging speed ceiling. So it would just be par for the course if Samsung sticks to this limit for the tri-fold device as well.

Recent rumors about the device have also revealed that it may not have an under-display camera. Regarding its displays, the expectation is that the tri-folding panel would measure around 10-inch when unfolded while the cover display would be the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at 6.49-inch.

As for when the device will be launched, it's believed that Samsung could unveil it in fourth quarter of this year with a release slated for potentially around the same time or early next year.samsung-tri-fold-teaser-unpacked
