Sony’s Much-Awaited XM5 Sequel is Now Official

Following the launch of its new Xperia 1 VII flagship smartphone, Japanese tech veteran Sony more recently announced its new WH-1000XM6 wireless headphones, the much-anticipated successor to its XM4 and XM5 series headphones. Priced at around $449, the new headphones come with some much-welcome features.

In terms of looks, the new headphones come with a foldable lightweight design, and Sony does offer a bundled carrying case similar to its earlier models. It comes in three colours including black, midnight blue and silver.

Sony says that it’s equipped the XM6 with its new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 alongside a 12-microphone system, and there’s also built-in Multi Noise Sensor Technology with an Auto NC Optimizer for adaptive noise cancelling. The WH-1000XM6 features a 30mm driver unit, supports Hi-Res Audio, and uses DSEE Extreme technology to upscale all audio tracks.

As for battery, the WH-1000XM6 headphones can last for up to 30 hours of playtime on a single charge, and a quick 3-minute charge can provide up to three hours of listening.

Other features include 360 Upmix for more immersive and cinematic surround sound, while Game EQ is designed to boost clarity and detail during gameplay. Other features include Adaptive Sound Control, Quick Attention Mode, Background Music Mode, Personalised Spatial Audio, Wind Noise Reduction, 360 Reality Audio with Head Tracking, and the convenient Speak to Chat function.

For phone calls, Sony says that the XM6 comes with six AI-powered beamforming microphones and support for AI Noise Reduction to filter out unwanted background sounds during calls.
