Did Samsung kill your One UI 7 excitement?

When Samsung introduced One UI 7 (based on Android 15), fans were excited. That wasn’t surprising: every new One UI reveal has the same effect. But after the initial excitement, nothing has gone according to plan, or at least according to our expectations.

One UI 7’s beta program came much later than previous versions of One UI; only the Galaxy S24 series was part of that beta program for the first three months or so; and when the stable update finally came out, it had to be taken off the air because of a serious bug.

April is almost coming to an end, and while Samsung has managed to get back on track, it has only released the official update to flagship devices launched in 2024 and 2023. That’s not all. At the time of writing, flagships launched in 2023, like the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, have only received the update in Samsung’s home country.

We won't deny it: at the beginning, we were making excuses for Samsung's handling of One UI 7 because of how big an update this is. Samsung made excuses too, like saying that One UI 7 was in the planning stages for three years and so the company wanted to make sure it was as good and stable as possible before rolling it out to customers.

But for a big update like this, you would want more customers to be involved in beta testing. It was odd, then, that Samsung chose to only offer beta testing to Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra owners for the first few months. And it wasn't like it was a ploy to push Galaxy S25 sales, as the company also launched budget and mid-range phones with One UI 7 preloaded soon after the Galaxy S25 lineup.

With so many missteps, Samsung ruined the ambitiousness of One UI 7 with what is best described as a complete wreck of a testing and rollout process. And if you think Samsung ruined the One UI 7 excitement for you, well, you're not alone, and we can only hope no future One UI has a similar fate.
