Samsung makes the world's best OLED panels for mobile devices. And for the first foldable iPhone, Samsung Display has reportedly developed its most advanced OLED panel that hasn't been used even in Samsung's own smartphones yet. Apparently, it is thinner and has almost no crease.

Foldable iPhone could use Samsung Display's thinnest OLED panel

According to leakster yeux1122, Samsung Display has developed a foldable OLED panel that meets Apple's desired level of brightness, thickness, and weight. This was done by integrating the touchscreen layer within the OLED panel, resulting in a reduction of 19% in thickness compared to the panel used in the Galaxy Z Fold (likely referring to the Galaxy Z Fold).

Samsung Display has reportedly developed new processes to improve the panel's peak brightness and typical brightness as well.

It is claimed that these improvements make the display feel like a regular OLED panel used in slab-form smartphones. A similar (not the exact same) panel could be used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which will reportedly be the world's thinnest foldable phone when it launches in July this year.

A recent report claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be just 3.9mm thin when unfolded and 8.9mm thin when folded. That is a lot thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which is 4.9mm thin when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded.

Apple has reportedly applied for new branding trademarks for the panel used in the foldable iPhone. The company is known for using terms like Retina, Liquid Retina, Super Retina XDR, Ultra Retina XDR, and ProMotion for displays used in its devices. And it could do something similar for the foldable iPhone's display panel.
