Today, Google unveiled Android 16 and its new Material 3 Expressive UI design. During the announcement, the company also revealed that stable Android 16 is coming to Samsung's eligible Galaxy phones and tablets in the summer of 2025.
Stable One UI 8 release timeline for Galaxy devices revealed
Towards the end of today's The Android Show, Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem, announced that Android 16 (One UI 8.0) is coming to Samsung devices “this summer.” So, Galaxy phones and tablets will get the update anywhere from June 20 to September 22 of this year. For Google's Pixel devices, the update will arrive in June.
This information lines up with our exclusive reporting from a couple of months ago where we revealed that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will run One UI 8.0 out of the box. Multiple reports claim that the phones will be launched in July. We also recently reported that Samsung will open the One UI 8 Beta Program as soon as this month. So, it is likely that we will see the next update rolling out sooner than later.
Internal beta builds of One UI 8 were leaked a few days ago, and we installed it on some of our devices. You can see how One UI 8 looks and feels (at this stage) in the video below.
One UI 7 was delayed by more than five months, and it disappointed a lot of Galaxy users worldwide. So, with One UI 8, Samsung is trying to make amends by releasing it much earlier compared to One UI 7. The One UI 8 Beta Program will likely arrive for the Galaxy S25 series in the next few weeks and then to older phones in the subsequent weeks.
