Galaxy S25 Edge sees Apple-like retail launch theatrics in Korea

New iPhone launches used to be a big deal back in the day. You'd have people lining up outside Apple's retail stores in the US from the night before, doing everything in their power to not lose their place so that they could be among the very first to get their hands on the new device.

The store doors would open amid cheers in the morning, and the first customer to buy the new iPhone would receive a thunderous round of applause. Such theatrics aren't witnessed outside Apple stores anymore, but the Galaxy S25 Edge launch in South Korea has brought back those memories.

Samsung today posted photos of the Galaxy S25 Edge's retail launch in South Korea on its official newsroom. People had lined up outside its flagship retail store in Gangnam, Seoul, to get their hands on the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Customers were lined up to be among the first in the store when it opened at 10 am local time. They were able to pick up the devices they had previously ordered using the QR codes sent to them. The person who was the first in line became the “Samsung Gangnam No. 1 Customer,” and got their Galaxy S25 Edge unit amid applause and cheers from everyone in the store.

The customer was made to feel extra special with flowers and commemorative gifts prepared by Samsung Gangnam employees. It's unsurprising that the reception has been such in Samsung's home country of South Korea. We're unlikely to see similar scenes once the Galaxy S25 Edge is released in other markets on May 30.
