Many of Samsung's old devices typically stop receiving software updates, primarily the security patches, after four years. Some of these devices were only eligible for two or three Android OS upgrades.

Once the clock runs out, Samsung drops software support for these devices entirely. The latest devices on the chopping block include the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

Two more Galaxy devices lose software update support

After detailing the June 2025 security patch today, Samsung has also updated the list of devices currently supported for regular security maintenance releases. Depending on the device, it may either receive a monthly, quarterly, or bi-annual security update.

Up until last month, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite were both on the bi-annual cycle. The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has only just received its May 2025 security update, and that's going to be its last. The list has been updated today to reflect that both the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will no longer receive updates.

Samsung has two variants of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, one released in 2020 and the other released in 2024. It's the 2020 model that loses software support. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 is currently on Samsung's quarterly update schedule.

We have put together a handy list of when your Galaxy device will receive a security update. It mentions all of the supported devices on their respective update cycles. Check the list to know precisely when you can expect to get new updates on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet.
