Latest One UI 8 firmware makes useful change to lock screen widgets

One UI 8 may not have any major new features, but Samsung is making a lot of small changes that could, by the time the One UI 8 update goes live, add up in a big way to improve the user experience. In the latest One UI 8 test firmware, which we tried on a Galaxy S25 Ultra, one such change has been made to lock screen widgets.

Lock screen widgets on the latest One UI 8 firmware are bigger than they were on previous builds and bigger than they are on One UI 7. The difference is clear to see in the image below – lock screen widgets on an older build of One UI 8 are on the left, and those on the latest build are on the right.

Again, this is a minor change, but anyone using widgets on the lock screen will appreciate it. It's also worth noting that while the widgets now appear bigger, the number of widgets the lock screen can hold remains the same – you can still add up to four of them.

As far as what type of widgets are available, we're afraid Samsung hasn't added any new options, at least not right now. But that could change as One UI 8 development continues.

If you have the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, or Galaxy S25 Ultra, you could get the chance to take One UI 8 for a test drive as soon as this month through the One UI 8 beta program. Samsung may also include other devices in the beta program, including the Galaxy S25 Edge, but that's not a guarantee at this time.
