Gemini AI coming soon to your kids’ Galaxy phones and tablets

In Late 2023, Google replaced Google Assistant with Gemini (named Bard back then), its new AI-powered voice assistant. Since then, Gemini has been released for multiple platforms (Android, ChromeOS, iOS, iPadOS, and the web) for adults. It was then released to teens with Google accounts. Now, the company has announced that it will soon be available for kids.

Gemini is coming to Galaxy (and other Android) smartphone users who are teens

Google has started sending emails to parents who have kids aged under 13 years that Gemini will be available to them via the Google Family Link system. Emails started arriving last week, and Gemini will likely start rolling out this week to kids. Gemini will be available on Android devices, so if your kids have a Galaxy smartphone or tablet, they can soon access the new AI assistant.

Gemini was released to teens since last year. Then, it was released to Education accounts. Now, kids aged under 13 years can start using the AI assistant. However, it remains to be seen how many parents are comfortable kids using Gemini, as no AI assistant is perfect, and they could expose inappropriate content to kids.

Google has already started approaching privacy and other concerns surround Gemini for kids. It said none of the interactions of kids with Gemini will be used to train its AI models. It is also notifying parents that they teach their kids to double-check the information provided by Gemini. However, most kids are not mature and skillful enough to make such judgements.

So, you should think twice about letting your kids use Gemini on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet.
