Honor isn’t being subtle. The company just dropped a teaser for its next foldable, the Honor Magic V5, and it’s gunning straight for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The teaser confirms a launch date of July 2 and showcases what might be the thinnest foldable ever made.
Honor had a standout year in 2024, releasing the Magic V3 at just 9.3mm thick when folded. That’s thinner than many regular phones, about a millimeter thicker than the Pixel 9. Now, the Magic V5 looks set to push those boundaries even further.
The teaser image shows the phone’s side profile while closed, revealing its volume rocker and power button. And just like last year’s model, it’s seriously slim. No official thickness spec has been shared yet, but the message is clear: Honor wants to beat its record, and Samsung’s too.
Honor also leans hard into AI. The image calls the Magic V5 “the most powerful AI smartphone” the brand has ever made. There’s mention of “PC-level productivity” and “all-brand interconnection,” but specifics are vague for now. Still, it’s clear that AI will be a key part of the phone’s pitch, just like it is for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The Honor Magic V5 will officially debut on July 2, likely with an initial launch in China followed by a global rollout. As usual, don’t expect it to arrive in the US — Honor hasn’t had much presence there lately.
With Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked rumored for July 9, Honor is clearly trying to steal some thunder. And if the Magic V5 delivers on its promise of being thinner, lighter, and more AI-focused, it might just pull it off.
