Last year, Samsung started replacing the Samsung Messages app on its phones with Google Messages. However, it doesn't seem like the company is completely abandoning its in-house messaging app. In fact, the South Korea firm appears to be adding new features to Samsung Messages.
Let us check out what features are in development right now.
Samsung Messages could get live location sharing, emoji reactions
With One UI 8.0, Samsung Messages could get plenty of new features. They were discovered by Android Authority in code strings of the latest version of the app found in one of the leaked One UI 8 firmware files. Those features are listed below:
- Birthday Reminders
- Emoji Reactions
- Live Location Sharing
- Now Brief support
- Sticker Reactions
Samsung Messages can remind you about people's birthday and prompt you to send them a wish via a message. It can also fetch data from the contacts information stored on your device (or cloud). You can react to messages using emojis or stickers.
You can also share your live location via RCS through the Samsung Messages. Unlike Google Messages' live location sharing feature, this feature works via Samsung Find, so you need to have a Samsung Account as well. Now Brief will also be supported. It is reported that Now Bar will notify you about blocked, malicious, or suspicious messages.

Most of these upcomings features will likely work via RCS and Samsung's own ecosystem apps and services.
