Rumor claims Galaxy S26 Edge could replace the Galaxy S26+ next year

The Galaxy S25 Edge is unlikely to be a one-off device and it's possible that Samsung could launch a new variant every year. This would expand the Galaxy S series to include five devices, as Samsung also launches one FE model towards the end of the year, as we know the Galaxy S25 FE is already in the pipeline.

A new rumor, while claiming that the newest variant will get a successor next year, also raises the possibility that Samsung could replace the Galaxy S26+ in its lineup with the Galaxy S26 Edge.

Samsung could trim its flagship phone lineup in 2026

The Galaxy S+ models typically sell fewer units than the base and Ultra models. Since the Edge is priced just below it, it would make sense for Samsung to do away with this variant.

Rumors from South Korea mention that Samsung has informed its parts suppliers that the development work on the Galaxy S26 series under the project name NPA. The project is reportedly starting with base, Edge, and Ultra models.

Of the 37.7 million units Samsung targets to ship of its flagship lineup this year, it expects the Galaxy S25 Ultra to account for 17.4 million, Galaxy S25 for 13.6 million, and Galaxy S25+ lowest at 6.7 million.

It also claims that Samsung could change course and add the Galaxy S26+ to the mix again if the Galaxy S25 Edge doesn't sell as well it hopes. In that case, the Galaxy S26 Edge would likely be launched separately, since Samsung wouldn't want to give up on the slim phone space as Apple is also moving into it.
