What millions have been waiting for is finally set to happen this year: Samsung is ready to bring bigger displays to its flagship Galaxy Z Fold foldable lineup. Technically, Samsung already did so last year with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, but a device launched in just two countries in limited quantities doesn't really count.
That's where the Galaxy Z Fold 7 comes in. Rumors say the device could feature a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8.2-inch foldable display, and while Samsung has unsurprisingly not revealed the actual specs yet, it does say in its teaser for the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 Unpacked event that it “has listened to users asking for bigger screens.” That's as official as it can get until the new devices are unveiled.
The unveiling could take place in the second week of July according to a recent report. In addition to the larger displays, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will impress with a thin chassis. We're told the upcoming foldable will be around 4.54mm thick, or a full millimeter thinner than the Fold 6, when unfolded. According to one rumor, it could even be 3.9mm thick when unfolded, though that seems a little too thin to be true—and it could also be rather impractical.
When unfolded, the Fold 7 might measure 9mm, which would be 3.1mm thinner than the Fold 6. All this is no doubt made possible by the bigger displays, which gives Samsung more space to spread out the internal components. Unfortunately, one downside is that the battery isn't getting an upgrade. The Fold 7 is expected to use the same 4,400 mAh battery as the previous four models in the lineup.
