Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Everything you need to know

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 may sound like the seventh generation of Samsung’s flagship foldable, but it’s actually the eighth Galaxy Fold to date. Set to be unveiled on July 9 at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has everyone wondering: will this be another incremental upgrade, or does Samsung have something exciting in store?

Let's break down everything we know about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 so far, starting with the design. Be sure to check back later as we will update this article with new information as and when it comes out.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 is bringing an ultra-thin design, bigger displays

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup has long been criticized for its narrow cover screens, which force the user to unfold the device when they want to get serious work done. That changed with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (SE), which brought a wider cover display and also a larger main display. With the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is making those bigger screens more mainstream.

But the Fold 7 isn't just going to be a rebranded Galaxy Z Fold SE. Samsung has been on a mission to make its phones thinner than ever, and like the Galaxy S25 Edge, the Fold 7 looks set to break some records.

It will be Samsung's thinnest foldable yet, boasting a thickness of somewhere between 4-4.5mm when unfolded. For comparison, the Fold SE is 4.9mm thick when unfolded, while the Fold 6 sits at 5.6mm.

This dramatic reduction in thickness is made possible by the larger displays. The Fold 7 is expected to have a 6.5-inch cover screen and an 8.2-inch main display (both running at 120Hz), which no doubt gave Samsung more space to distribute the internal components.

The Fold 7 will also have a fancy new paint job: it is expected to launch in black, white, and blue. The blue hue seems to be the hero color for all the products Samsung is launching on July 9. It should liven up the usually drab color options the company offers for its flagship devices.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 specs: Faster Snapdragon chip, higher-res camera, and not much more

While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will impress everyone with its design, it may not be too exciting on the hardware front or include all the upgrades fans have been asking for.

There will be some upgrades of course. The Fold 7 will be powered by the latest Snapdragon chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which has no equal in either performance or efficiency. It will also come with a 200MP main camera like the Galaxy Z Fold SE and the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

On the software front, you will get One UI 8 (Android 16) out of the box, along with the promise of seven years of OS and security updates. If the best software experience and long-term support are your priorities, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have no equal.

The S Pen is also returning so Samsung can continue to boast about the productivity edge its foldables have over the competition. However, some things appear unchanged from what we have been getting for the past several years. For example, the Fold 7 is expected to feature the same 3x telephoto camera and 12MP ultrawide camera as the Fold 6.

More importantly, Samsung has left the battery capacity unchanged. The Fold 7 will feature a 4,400 mAh battery, same as the last five Galaxy Z Folds. Charging speed will also max out at 25W once again. The Snapdragon 8 Elite and software optimization will have to do a lot of heavy lifting as far as battery life is concerned.

We also expect the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to retain the same IP48 water and dust resistance rating as the Fold 6 and an Armor Aluminum frame instead of titanium.

When is the Z Fold 7 coming and what will it cost?

Samsung usually puts its new flagships on sale around two weeks after the announcement, so the Fold 7 could hit retail shelves sometime between July 23-25.

As for the price, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be substantially more expensive than the Fold 6, at least in Europe, where retailers have listed the device for 2,227 euros for the 256GB variant and 1,425 euros for the 512GB variant.

We will have to wait for Samsung's Unpacked event for the official price and release date. However, if you already have your mind set on getting this phone, you can preserve one now to get a $50 credit. It will also enable up to $1,150 of additional savings if trading-in an older device and give you the chance to win a whopping $5,000 credit.
