Samsung urges Galaxy phone users in the UK to use latest anti-theft measures
In the UK, Samsung is encouraging users to update and enable the latest anti-theft features that are available on Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The company is supporting UK Home Office’s ongoing drive to tackle mobile phone thefts. The South Korean firm issued a public safety alert today that will reach 40 million Galaxy smartphone users across the UK.
The new and improved anti-theft features available on Samsung's phones include the following:
- Identity Check: When the phone is in unfamiliar places, users need to use their biometrics to make any changes to sensitive security settings.
- Offline Device Lock: The device is automatically locked when it is disconnected from the internet for an extended period of time.
- Remote Lock: If a phone is stolen, users can remotely lock their device using their phone number and a verification step. It allows users to regain control of their device and explore recovery options.
- Security Delay: When a robber attempts to reset biometric data, a one-hour delay is introduced before any changes take effect. This delay gives users enough time to enable Remote Lock and display a custom message on the device's screen.
- Theft Detection Lock: It uses machine learning to detect if the phone has been snatched from the user. Upon detection, it instantly locks the device's screen.
These features are available on the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and many other devices that have received the One UI 7.0 update or are already running One UI 7.0.

The message related to those features will also be shared UK's social channels and Samsung has spent a significant marketing spend to launch an awareness campaign around the Samsung Knox Security Platform. The message will be displayed on Samsung’s Piccadilly Lights space, through outdoor advertising in tube stationsm and train stations in central London and content across Online Video, Connected TV and Broadcaster Video on Demand channels.
Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience (MX) VP of Product and Marketing, UK&I at Samsung, spoke on the issue of phone theft: “Samsung is deeply committed to working closely with the Home Office on the issue of mobile phone theft and related crimes and we’re in constant collaboration with our partners across the industry, to look at new and existing solutions to help combat this complex issue and ultimately help improve the safety of mobile phone users.“
