Samsung’s earthquake warnings feature in One UI 8 is better than Google’s

One UI 8.0 brings several new and improved features to Galaxy phones. One of those new features include a potentially life saving feature called Earthquare Warnings. While this feature has been available on Android devices in general, Samsung's newer version appears to be much more feature-rich than Google's.

Even though Samsung published an official One UI 8.0 changelog, it did not mention anything about the improved Earthquare Warnings feature. Tipster @GalaxyTechie has discovered that the One UI 8.0 version of Earthquake Warnings (1.0.07.0) is a lot more feature-rich compared to what Google designed for Android. First of all, its design language feels native to One UI compared to the older version available on One UI 7.0 and the current public beta build of One UI 8.0.

Moreover, you can customize the seismic intensity threshold for the feature to trigger a warning. You can also view the warning history. You can also check out information about emergency shelters nearby and set emergency contacts so that you can contact them quickly in case of earthquakes. You can also enter your medical information, which can be incredibly useful for emergency responders.

As you can see in the screenshots above, you can set different seismic intensity thresholds for the day and the night. It displays day and night time slots in the related settings page. It also explains seismic intensity in a simpler language on that page. You can access this page by navigating to Settings » Safety and emergency » Earthquake warnings.

Below the set threshold, the phone will still display a warning on the screen, but it won't interrupt whatever you are doing on your phone. You can also test how an earthquare warning will look like on your Galaxy phone. This version of the Earthquake Warnings feature isn't live on the latest beta version of One UI 8.0 on the Galaxy S25 series.
