Samsung’s XR headset appears with Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip

Samsung has pretty much confirmed that its first Android XR headset will launch later this year. It was already known that the headset will use a Qualcomm processor, but its exact model was not confirmed. Now, its chip's exact model number and name has been confirmed, as the XR headset has appeared in Geekbench's database.

Let us check it out Galaxy XR headset's processor in detail.

Samsung's first Android XR headset uses Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor

Project Moohan is the current codename for Samsung's first XR headset. It was showcased for the first time late last year and then during the launch of the Galaxy S25 earlier this year. It was also showcased at the Google I/O 2025 conference in the USA a few days ago. Now, the headset has showed up in Geekbench's database (via @yabhishekhd) with model number SM-I610.

It appears to be using a Qualcomm chip with six high-performance CPU cores and the Adreno 740 GPU. Going by that combination, it appears that the chip is the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 that was announced in early 2024.

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip scored 990 points in the single-core CPU performance test and 2,453 points in the multi-core CPU performance test in Geekbench 6. The scores might look too low compared to flagship chips used in smartphones these days, and that is because the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 uses Cortex-A78C CPU cores that were unveiled back in 2020.

The chip features Adreno 740 GPU, which was also used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This means the GPU is quite powerful and in line with recent high-end phones. However, the CPU is not that powerful. However, that is given considering the use case of XR headsets that need a powerful GPU to process a high-resolution displays at a high refresh rate.

Samsung's XR headset seems to be using 16GB RAM and running Android 14 (on which Android XR is likely based). Android XR was fully announced and showcased last week during the Google I/O 2025 developers conference. Samsung's upcoming XR headset is the first device to run Android XR.
