Not too long after the launch of the Xperia 1 VII, it’s now reported that Sony might turn to third-party hardware manufacturing for its future flagship phones, according to new reports from Japan. While outsourced manufacturing isn’t exactly uncommon when it comes to smartphones, Sony has always kept a hands-on approach with its own mobile phones.

While Sony’s more affordable devices have mostly been assembled by third-party facilities, this hasn’t been the case with its flagship-tier handsets. That being said however, it’s now expected that the Japanese tech giant will turn to this long-term approach for upcoming smartphones. Additionally, it’s even thought that the Xperia 1 VII is the first Sony flagship to have been produced via this new strategy.

The report also states that Sony’s production facilities in Thailand and China no longer mention work on “smartphones”. Earlier this month, the company launched its latest Xperia 1 VII which features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, as well as its new WH-1000XM6 headphones.
