The Galaxy Watch 4 was Samsung's first Wear OS smartwatch. The new operating system allowed the company to bring a good collection of third-party apps and services. Samsung promised four years of software support for the Galaxy Watch 4 series, leading users to believe it would receive the upcoming One UI 8 Watch update.
But will it?
Galaxy Watch 4 might not get One UI 8 Watch update
Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in August 2021 with Wear OS 3 (One UI Watch 3). Since then, the company has consistently released major updates each year. However, with the announcement of the One UI 8 Watch Beta Program, Samsung isn't being upfront regarding the Galaxy Watch 4's One UI 8 Watch compatibility.
In an official press release, Samsung said the One UI 8 Watch beta will only be available for the Galaxy Watch 5 series and newer models. There was no mention of the Galaxy Watch 4. We reached out to Samsung for clarification, but as of now, the company has not provided a response.
Galaxy Watch 4's update history and why it might miss One UI 8 Watch
Samsung committed to delivering four years of major software updates for the Galaxy Watch 4. Here is the list of updates that the smartwatch received so far:
- Wear OS 3 (One UI Watch 3) – Launch Version (August 2021)
- Wear OS 3.5 (One UI Watch 4.5) – July 2022
- Wear OS 4 (One UI Watch 5) – August 2023
- Wear OS 5 (One UI Watch 6) – November 2024
If Samsung sticks to its current rollout plan, the Galaxy Watch 4 may not receive the Wear OS 6 (One UI 8 Watch) update. Since the stable update is expected around or after August 2025, it may fall outside the promised update window. That gives Samsung a technical reason to exclude the Galaxy Watch 4 from the compatibility list.

While Samsung hasn’t explicitly ruled out the One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 4, signs point to a likely exclusion. Until the stable release arrives and Samsung makes an official announcement, users will have to wait and see.
