Samsung is due to launch another device in its 2025 flagship series later this year. There aren't a lot of details available about the Galaxy S25 FE specs at the moment, but recent reports had indicated that it may come with the Exynos 2400e chipset, the same one that was used for the Galaxy S24 FE last year.
However, it was reported more than seven months ago that the Galaxy S25 FE could come with a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. While all recent signs had been pointing to the Exynos 2400e, there's renewed confusion over the chipset following a new report that Samsung could go with a MediaTek chip.
Samsung Foundry's yields may dictate the chipset choice
Citing “one of our most reliable sources,” Notebookcheck reports that the Galaxy S25 FE could launch with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, not the Exynos 2400e. It adds that while the Exynos chip remains the likely choice, Samsung has kept the Dimensity 9400 as a backup option.
Why would Samsung need a backup option? The Exynos 2400e is a proven chipset that has served diligently on the Galaxy S24 FE. It's claimed that if Samsung Foundry is unable to produce enough supply of the Exynos 2400e, then Samsung would have to go with MediaTek's option.
If the foundry was able to produce enough Exynos 2400e chips for the Galaxy S24 FE, surely it could do the same for its successor, right? Rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip FE will get the Exynos 2400e as well, so the foundry will need to produce enough quantity to meet demand for both of these devices.
In the event that it's unable to do that, Samsung would need to opt for the Dimensity 9400, which Galaxy S25 FE customers will be happy about since it will have a performance advantage over the Exynos 2400e.
