Galaxy S23 users with One UI 7 beta get AOD update for Now Bar

Samsung released two One UI 7.0 beta updates for the Galaxy S23 series. Some beta testers noticed that Google Sports wasn't working well on the phone's Now Bar on the beta version of One UI. And to fix it, Samsung has released an update for the Always On Display plugin.

A new version (8.8.42.4) of the Always On Display module is being rolled out via the Galaxy Store. While Samsung's changelog in English states that the update improves the memory usage of Now Bar for Google Sports, it likely fixes the issue people had with the feature.

To install this version of Always On Display, you can open the Samsung Store on your Galaxy phone or tablet, tap the Menu button on the bottom of the screen, and then tap Updates. You should now see the Always On Display updated listed on the screen.

This version of the Always On Display module is only available on devices running Android 15 and One UI 7.0, so it only works on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24, Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Once the One UI 7.0 update is rolled out to other phones in the coming weeks, this new version of Always On Display will become available on those devices.

The Now Bar feature was introduced with One UI 7.0. It displays ongoing activities on a phone, including Bixby, Emergency Sharing, Google Maps, Interpreter, live sports scores (Google Sports), ongoing media playback, Samsung Health workouts, Samsung Notes, Stopwatch, Timer, and Voice Recorder.
