At the Google I/O 2025 keynote event, Google announced it is bringing an improved search experience to everyone in the USA by introducing the AI Mode. All Galaxy phone and tablet users in the USA can soon access the improved Google app on their devices.

Over the coming weeks, the AI Mode will be available in the Google app on Galaxy (and other Android and iOS) phones and tablets for all users in the USA. It will also be available on the web, which means almost every device that has a web browser can access it, too. However, the ability to use the camera and voice will only be available on phones and tablets.

The AI Mode distills relevant information all the search results for your search terms into an AI-generated text summary with links to sources. Unlike AI Overviews, which appears on top of conventional search results, the AI Mode only displays AI-powered summaries.
The AI Mode can also create graphics in real time to explain complex data, but this is currently limited to finance and sports related topics. It can also tap into your search history and connect with other apps, including Gmail, to offer better results. For example, when you search for events nearby, it will offer better results by looking at emails related to your trip's flight and hotel bookings.

Google says both AI Mode and AI Overviews are now powered by a custom version of its Gemini 2.5 AI model. You can look at the AI Mode interface in the short video from Google below.
With the Live icon, you can use live visuals from your phone's camera and your voice to help Google understand what you are trying to search in a better way. That information is then used to offer better search results and most relevant types of information, including forums, videos, websites, and more.
Google also displayed ‘Project Mariner' during its keynote event. It is an AI agent that can act on your behalf in the background. For example, you can ask it to find the seats with the best views in a stadium's particular section and book the seats from a website that is offering them at the cheapest price. Project Mariner will do so after looking at multiple search results. You can also ask it to buy a particular shirt with the size that fits you only when its price drops to your expectations.
The AI Mode was first launched last year and was accessible via the Labs section. However, it is now available for all USA users. Google is also expanding Deep Research in AI Mode. It goes through hundreds of search results, reasons with the information, and offers a detailed and full-cited report in the end.
