Samsung is finally launching its first Smart Monitor featuring a QD-OLED screen. The Smart Monitor M9 was announced around six months ago, so the is a huge gap between its announcement and launch.
Alongside the QD-OLED monitor, the South Korean firm is also launching the Smart Monitor M7 and the Smart Monitor M8.
Samsung launches Smart Monitor M9 with QD-OLED screen in South Korea
The Smart Monitor M7, M8, and M9 are launching in South Korea today. All monitors have 32-inch screens, but the Smart Monitor M7 also comes in a 42-inch variant. In other countries, they will be launched in the next few weeks.
The Smart Monitor M9 has a price tag of KRW 1.99 million (~$1,461) and comes in silver. The Smart Monitor M8 comes in the warm white color and is priced at KRW 900,000 (~$661). The cheapest of the three monitors is the Smart Monitor M7, which has a starting price of KRW 560,000 (~$411) and an ending price of KRW 690,000 (~$506), comes in black and white colors.
Those who buy of these new monitors in Korea from June 25 to July 4 get a discount of KRW 150,000 discount. It is for those who chose to get an advance notification of the launch. Those who buy the Smart Monitor M8 or the Smart Monitor M9 from Samsung.com will receive the JBL Flip 7 or the Harman Kardon LUNA wireless speakers as gifts. Additionally, you can get a discount of KRW 150,000 if you buy a Moving Stand for the Smart Monitor M7.
Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “The Smart Monitor series continues to evolve based on how people work, watch and play. With the introduction of QD-OLED and AI-powered enhancements, the M9 delivers a more responsive and refined screen experience — all within a single, versatile display.“
Smart Monitor M9 features
The Smart Monitor M9 has a 4K QD-OLED panel with a Glare-Free coating to minimize glare and reflections. It has a 165Hz variable refresh rate, 0.03ms response time, 250 nits typical brightness, and 400 nits peak brightness. It has VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. It has AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync Compatible certifications.
The Smart Monitor M9 has a 10W stereo speaker setup and comes with a Solar Cell Remote with a USB Type-C port. It uses the Active Voice Amplifier Pro feature to improve vocals in a video.
It has a metal design, a 5MP webcam with 4K video and IR sensor for face detection, far-field microphones, and a height adjustable stand. The stand offers pivot, swivel, and tilt adjustments.
The Smart Monitor M9 has Wi-Fi 5, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 5.2, one HDMI 2.1 port, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, one USB Type-C upstream port with 90W USB PD charging, and two USB 3.0 Type-A downstream ports. It has a VESA 100 x 100 standard mount.
The monitor runs Tizen OS with One UI and will get major OS updates for seven years. It has Bixby, Samsung Gaming Hub, Samsung TV Plus, SmartThings, and Samsung Vision AI.
Samsung Gaming Hub brings all major cloud game streaming options directly to the monitor, while Samsung TV Plus offers free content streaming. Other gaming features include Game Bar, Off Timer Plus, Super Ultrawide Game View, and Virtual Aim Point.
Samsung Vision AI, which is powered by the monitor's NQM AI Gen 3 Processor that powers 4K AI Upscaling Pro that upscales non-4K content to near 4K quality. It helps identify what's being played on the screen and displays suggestions about what to watch next. It can identify actors or food are on the screen.
The Smart Monitor M9 has Samsung Knox protection. With its Multi Control feature, you can share your keyboard and mouse across your Samsung laptop, phone, or tablet. It also comes with the Microsoft 365 app for accessing a virtual PC for work.
Should you be worried about pixel burn-in issue on Smart Monitor M9 QD-OLED monitor?
If you are worried about pixel burn-in issues, the monitor features Samsung OLED Safeguard+ for preventing that issue. It uses a thermal control system and an active cooling sytem. The company says the Smart Monitor M9 is the world's first monitor to feature an oscillating heat pipe and a coolant to dissipate heat 5x faster than graphite sheets.
Its AI algorithms predict surface temperature to prevent pixel burn-in by reducing the brightness when necessary. It also uses AI to detect things like channel logos and desktop taskbars to prevent permanent pixel burn-in. Moreover, when the monitor isn't used for 10 minutes, it displays a screensaver and reduce the screen brightness.
