Shocker! Galaxy S25 May 2025 update has been released in the US

We've grown used to seeing Samsung release the monthly security update within the first few days of the month. Those roll outs typically don't happen this quickly in the US for carrier-locked variants. The firmware is quickly rolled out in other markets first before its makes its way Stateside.

Samsung seems to have flipped the script this time around. Many Galaxy S25 owners in the United States are now reporting that they've begun receiving a new firmware update. It's the May 2025 security update that they would have otherwise expected to receive in a couple of weeks.

We've checked and found that firmware version S93xUSQS3AYDF is indeed being rolled out for the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra in the United States. Leading carriers have begun rolling it out on the first of the new month, which is rather unusual.

Carrier-locked phones are notorious for receiving updates later than their unlocked counterparts. While Samsung's factory unlocked phones are quick to get updates, those with carrier units typically have to wait for a bit longer. The situation has improved in recent years and the wait isn't as agonizingly long as it used to be.

This isn't a substantial update by any means, even though there has been talk recently of Samsung preparing a big update for the Galaxy S25 series that may bring or enhanced a few features. This is a simple security update that brings the May 2025 patches for Android 15 and One UI 7.

The details of what those patches fix should arrive over the next few days, so it will be a bit more clear precisely what vulnerabilities have been fixed with this update. Meanwhile, Galaxy S25 users in other markets should also expect to receive the May 2025 update fairly soon.
